Montana Landscape Showcase in Unreal Engine 5

2023 saw a huge leap forward in the generation of procedural landscape generation in Unreal Engine 5. Curious to find out what I could create with these tools, I sat down and made this small clip of a forest, lake and river based off Lake Josephine in Montana.

Using the Cesium Plugin for UE5 I integrated photogrammetry data from Google Maps into Unreal Engine. After that I replaced the foreground elements with the native landscape and set rules inside the Procedural Content Generation workspace (PCG) to dictate the apperance of different sections of the landscape. This way I didn’t have to add plants and rocks manually because every asset got placed by the rules I sat before.
